A chance encounter with Elizabeth Bennet on the morning after the Meryton assembly gives Mr. Darcy the opportunity to make a new impression and show her his real character. As the pair take their time ambling through Oakham Wood, shared confidences give way to the formation of love.
A short read of about 18,000 words.

A Walk in Oakham Wood A Pride and Prejudice Variation edition by Madeline Kennet Romance eBooks

While the concept of Darcy and Elizabeth meeting the morning after the Meryton Assembly and Darcy apologizing for his comment of the night before is a new scenario, this book does not do it complete justice. My main complaint is that it was too short! The pace was rather fast, and I think the story could have been stretched out more. Additionally, Darcy and Elizabeth were rather out of character (no concerns for propriety and being alone), both admitted their faults more readily than is realistic and they made-up from the previous night pretty quickly. It's a good fluffy read- particularly if you're wanting something short and sweet.

A Walk in Oakham Wood A Pride and Prejudice Variation edition by Madeline Kennet Romance eBooks Reviews

While very sweet and actually too sweet, E and D discuss and overcome their differences in a walk in a manner so rational and accepting, it becomes robotic. Passion and adoration are talked of but it's dull and just words with out believability. A walk of such length would have been exhausting too. I don't know much about regency etiquette but it also breaches rules of man and woman being alone together so they would have been forced to marry on their return. Sorry for the harsh critique but this was one of the least enjoyable ppff I have read.
Well - that was fast! But, I think that was the author's point.

This short bit of fluff shows us what can be accomplished by Darcy and Elizabeth if they open their hearts, their minds, and their mouths all at one time in one very long conversation. I cannot be the only reader who has thought - if only they did this, or if only they said this, or if only they would not be so proud or prejudiced and would open their minds.

Darcy and Elizabeth meet on the morning after the assembly on a beautiful walk through Oakham Wood. Each thinks, does and says exactly what they ought to in order to avoid any misunderstandings. They open their hearts to each other and say what is on their minds. They both take a giant leap of faith. And, they accomplish in one walk, one conversation, what it took them almost a year in canon time.

Despite how totally improbable this is, the writing is lovely, the conversation sweet and the possibilities quite intriguing. Both characters are a bit verbose to make the conversations sound realistic, but if the reader is willing to take the leap of faith along with them, they will be rewarded with a gentle sense of the way things might have been. Recommended.
There's not much story here and zero obstacles to overcome for Darcy and Elizabeth.

They encounter each other when both are out walking the morning after the Meryton Assembly. Darcy's aware that he was an arse the previous evening and is determined to use this opportunity to make a better impression.

The entire book consists of their conversation, which goes from polite discourse to recognizing their shared appreciation of nature to exchanging details about their respective families (including challenging relatives) to relating their sources of sorrow in their lives, etc., etc. By the time they've finished walking together (which, I grant you, is a long walk), they agree that they are deeply in love with each other. It's just too quick for Jane Austen's characters to open up so completely and then actually agree to marry.

It's pleasant and sweet, and the writing is good. But there's absolutely nothing surprising or different revealed here. Makes for a bland read.
While the concept of Darcy and Elizabeth meeting the morning after the Meryton Assembly and Darcy apologizing for his comment of the night before is a new scenario, this book does not do it justice. They speak with each other for what must be a couple of hours and the story devolves into the absurd. Their conversation may work well in a full length novel were it broken up over time - it is simply not believable in a short story.
This is an ok JAFF. It's sweet, short, and has some interesting insights into the characters. It is primarily dialogue which can be trying on one's attention, but the length helped.
I have read several variations now but this short novel is my favorite. The novel After to meet is wonderful......love at First Site was wonderful as well
Madeleine Kennet has a beautiful way of describing a moment in time for our adored Elizabeth and Darcy. If she would string these moments together her readers would be well rewarded. I enjoyed this snippet immensely, but am left wanting more. This author has real talent. I hope she puts it to good use.
